Receptors & Stroke

The mineralocorticoid receptor plays a critical role in blood pressure regulation, but new evidence suggests a role in inflammatory regulation. In collaboration with Rick Mortensen's lab, we have shown that inhibition of MR in macrophages is protective against stroke.

MR inhibitors have been used clinically in cardiovascular disease in patients with high efficacy. We are now conducting studies to determine potential clinical utility of MR inhibition in acute stroke.

Together with Jimo Borjigin, we are studying the effects of MR inhibitors on neuronal recovery after injury.

Other interests in the lab include the role of estrogen in neuroprotection.
